Rescued Poodles Seek Loving Homes

  christierachael

The Humane Society of the United States and the Pennsylvania State Department of Agriculture joined forces on June 23 to remove over 200 dogs from Almost Heaven Kennel.  Upon learning of the seizure, the Humane League of Lancaster County immediately stepped forward to help and took in 10 of the rescued dogs. Some of these dogs will be available for adoption starting tomorrow, when the shelter opens at noon.  The majority of the dogs are toy and mini poodles, with the exceptions being one labradoodle and one cockapoo.

If you are interested in adopting one of the rescued poodles, please keep in mind that none of them are housebroken because they have spent their whole lives living in small, cramped cages.  They will definitely need some extra TLC as they make the adjustment from breeding dogs to much loved family companions.

free catsWe all know that the economy is in the dump but apparently the cats of Lancaster County haven't gotten the message about the current financial slump. While we are counting pennies, our local cats are out having fun, procreating, and causing an overpopulation crisis at the Humane League. So what's a shelter to do? We are waiving the adoption fee for any cat over 1 year old!

Bocci is learning to play with squeaky toys!

Check out the following Bocci update from Best Friends Representative, Medha Issacs:

"Bocci has continued to go home with Jasmine on weekends.  She is beginning to make progress.  Jasmine says that she woke up one night to squeaking noises.  Her pug Herbie was sleeping soundly beside her – It was Bocci playing in the dark with squeak toys!   Also she continues to be very happy to play with Herbie.

This weekend, Jasmine who is consulting with our trainer, Sherri Woodard, is going to use the tether technique for just an hour with Bocci.  This involves Jasmine fastening a lead between her and Bocci about 4 feet long and Bocci will have to go everywhere with her which should begin the process of her getting that Jasmine is safe and she can be with her comfortably.  Will let you know how it goes."
