The Maud Haldeman Society: Preserving the Humane League for Generations to Come
The Maud Haldeman Society, named after the founder of the Humane League of Lancaster County whose vision created a legacy of over ninety years of saving animals from neglect and abuse, was created to provide a way for the League to recognize and thank those who have chosen to remember the Humane League in their wills. By providing for the Humane League in your will, you can become a part of this society, and ensure that we can continue to serve the animals of our county for many years to come. There are many ways to make a gift that will benefit the Humane League of Lancaster County today, and to also leave a legacy of kindness.
You don't have to use cash to make your gift, you can donate appreciated securities instead. The deduction is the same as for a cash gift, and you pay no capital gains tax on the transfer. You can give an asset that may help us more than it's helping you such as a life insurance policy whose coverage your family no longer needs, or real estate, or a collection of artwork. You can make a gift that costs you nothing during your lifetime by naming the Humane League of Lancaster County as a beneficiary of your will or revocable trust, or of your retirement plan.
You can direct your bequest to a specific purpose, but please contact us first to ensure that we can use your gift as intended.
There are many ways to support the mission of the Humane League of Lancaster County through charitable giving:
Use cash to make your gift to the League and benefit the animals today and help us build our financial strength.
-
Make a gift of real estate
-
Include a bequest for us in your will (cash, specific property, or a share of the estate residue).

What is an Endowment?
An endowment is an investment that provides endless support to charitable causes. It is an investment in the future of the Humane League of Lancaster County. It is a perpetual commitment- a promise without end, made by you in support of the Humane League.
Endowments are permanent. They are funds with the requirement that the principal is never spent. The balance in these funds is invested, earning income that is then spent to support the Humane League in perpetuity.
